The career journey that brought me to a place of leadership within the The Lenbrook Group of Companies began at age 18.
I started into the “family” electronics distribution business right out of high school, so no university degree for me but I did get to work in just about every department in the company (well, maybe not the finance department!). I have now had a 34 year career with the company and have met amazing friends all around the world as part of my job. We have tried lots of things in our business with a mix of both success and failure. That comes with the territory when you’re involved in “start ups’ and in the cycle of the economy over that period of time.
In 2000 I assumed the leadership role of Lenbrook. This is the company my dad (the late David S. Simmonds) began in 1978
with some key managers from his original family business. More recently, our company has been more heavily involved in developing two brands of consumer electronics products and I spend a lot of my time on those projects. You could read about NAD Electronics and PSB Speakers, specialty home entertainment brands, on their websites. An even better idea is to go and buy some of these great products if you enjoy music and you’ll then understand just how great music can really sound!
Here’s a side note to which I was referring to earlier – In October 2008,along with my brothers and late father, we were honoured to be inducted into the Canadian Telecom Hall of Fame for contributions to the development of the wireless industry in the “Icons of Business” category. I feel too young to be seen as a “pioneer” but I guess in the wireless world that’s what our company was.
